Raahgiri is a Times of India initiative whereby every Sunday for 3 hours from 6.00am to 9.00 am a pedestrian zone is created in a designated place.
On 1st February in collaboration with the Department of Disability Affairs a special Raahgiri day was celebrated for the differently abled.
15 children alongwith parents and 12 teachers were a part of the event. The basic idea was awareness creation through fun filled activities. The children, parents and teachers first participated in a march past in the inner circle road of Connaught Place. They walked with banners to create sensitivity as regards deafblindness.
This was then followed by song with signs presented by the children. Their performance was applauded by all.
The biggest impact of the event was that Mr. Mukesh Jain, Joint Secretary Department of Disability Affairs, the main person behind the event, was introduced to the children and came to know about the work Sense India and National Association for the Blind Delhi are doing. He also introduced us to Mr. Thaawar Chand Gehlot the Minister of Social Justice and Environment, who obliged by getting himself clicked with the frame of I Support Deafblind People, I Support Sense India.
