The National Association for the Blind, Sabarkantha district
branch was established in 1985 with the aim of providing specialized
services for the welfare of the blind.
It is involved in implementing Integrated Education Programmes
in the rural areas of Sabarkantha district. Blind children
attend regular schools as day scholars and live with their
parents. It also runs a hostel for blind girls and besides
academics; the girls are given training in house keeping and
daily living skills. Besides this it also has an employment
and placement service for blind candidates and a self-employment
programme for blind persons.
Sense International (India) is supporting a day care centre
for deafblind children at Idar. It also supports a Community
Based Rehabilitation programme in the surrounding villages
implemented by the organisation.
